Matthew Stafford’s future with the Los Angeles Rams remains uncertain, and with potential contract disputes looming, at least two teams are reportedly prepared to offer the veteran quarterback a massive payday if he becomes available.
Stafford, 37, is entering the 2025 season with a base salary of $23 million, a figure that falls well below market value for a quarterback of his caliber. Additionally, his current contract lacks significant guaranteed money, meaning Stafford could be seeking a restructured deal—something the Rams reluctantly agreed to last offseason. However, if the two sides cannot reach an agreement, Stafford may push for a trade or release.
Giants and Raiders Ready to Make a Big Offer
According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the New York Giants and Las Vegas Raiders have emerged as the two most aggressive teams pursuing Stafford. Speaking on her Scoop City podcast, Russini reported that both franchises are willing to offer Stafford a two-year deal worth $90 million in guaranteed money—far more than what the Rams are currently prepared to pay.
“It’s the Raiders and Giants that are the most aggressive in all this,” Russini said, per Bleacher Report’s Andrew Peters.
“And the type of deals we’re looking at, or that we’re talking about here for Matthew Stafford… it’s guaranteed money—two years, around $90 million.
“Compared to what the LA Rams are looking to offer, which is one-year deals around $40 million.”
While $40 million is still a strong figure, Stafford may see long-term security elsewhere as the more attractive option.

What Would It Take for Stafford to Leave?
Stafford is not a free agent, meaning that for him to secure a bigger contract elsewhere, the Rams would need to either trade or release him. A release seems unlikely, given his value as a proven starter. That means a trade would be the most realistic scenario, but the Rams would likely set a steep asking price in return.
Reports suggest that the Rams have granted Stafford permission to speak with other teams regarding potential trade scenarios. However, despite the interest from other franchises, the Rams maintain that they want to keep him.
Tom Brady’s Influence in the Stafford Sweepstakes?
Adding another layer to the situation is the reported involvement of Tom Brady, who has been linked to the Raiders as a potential minority owner. Brady is rumored to be recruiting Stafford to Las Vegas, which has led to even more speculation about where the quarterback will play in 2025.
The topic has even sparked heated media debates, with two prominent reporters clashing over the extent of Brady’s role in courting Stafford to the Raiders.
Stafford’s Performance and Fit for New Teams
Despite battling injuries in recent years, Stafford remains a high-level quarterback when healthy. In 2024, he completed 65.8% of his passes, throwing for 3,762 yards and 20 touchdowns while leading the Rams to an NFC West title and a first-round playoff victory over the Minnesota Vikings.
Both the Giants and Raiders are in desperate need of a quarterback upgrade.

What Happens Next?
Stafford’s future hinges on whether the Rams budge on their contract stance or decide to entertain trade offers. If they refuse to offer him long-term security, he could force his way to New York or Las Vegas, where a two-year, $90 million guarantee awaits.
For now, the Rams, Giants, and Raiders remain locked in a high-stakes quarterback battle—one that could shape the NFL landscape heading into the 2025 season.
