Derrick Henry had another stunning game for the Baltimore Ravens on ‘Monday Night Football’ as he offered a great response to Saquon Barkley in the battle for the rushing title.
The Ravens improved to 8-4 after beating the Los Angeles Chargers 30-23, and Henry was the rushing leader with 140 yards off 24 carries. Henry wasn’t able to score a touchdown during the game, but Justice Hill, Lamar Jackson, Mark Andrews, and Rashod Bateman all found themselves in the end zone for Baltimore.
Henry’s 140-yard game came after Barkley had 255 yards and two touchdowns for the Philadelphia Eagles in a 37-20 win over the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday. Henry and Barkley are the only running backs in the league to have surpassed 1,000 rushing yards this season, an impressive statistic given they both joined new organizations in the offseason.
Barkley left the New York Giants to join his former NFC East rival, while Henry departed the Tennessee Titans as a free agent before ending up in Baltimore. Henry is looking to win his third rushing title this season, while Barkley has never led the league in yards come Week 18.

Henry is now on 1,325 yards for the season, while Barkley has 1,392 after his franchise-record haul on Sunday. Henry is one of only eight players to exceed 2,000 yards in a single season after he rushed for 2,027 yards in 2020, falling just short of the record set by Eric Dickerson (2,105) set in 1984.
Back in October, Ravens quarterback Jackson backed Henry to break the record. “It’s there. I feel like he has a great chance of achieving that,” Jackson told reporters. “I think he can do it. I believe he can do it.”
In order for Henry to break the record, he must average 156 yards in the remaining five regular season games, which although seems highly unlikely, is still possible for the 6-foot-3, 250-pound running back. The more realistic goal is to beat Barkley this season, although it doesn’t seem as though there’s a rivalry between the pair.
Henry was already in Los Angeles when Barkley rushed for 255 yards, due to both the Ravens and Eagles playing on the road at SoFi Stadium. Henry watched Barkley’s heroics, and wrote on X: “@Saquon GO CRAZY GANGSTA!!”
The Ravens running back has love for all players in his position, and roots for all running backs to succeed. “They’re franchise players; they’re showing that, they’re proving that week after week,” Henry said. “And hopefully, they’ll open doors for the future and other running backs that are coming up in free agency to get an opportunity to get paid, as well.”
Henry and Barkley face-off on Dec. 1 when the Ravens hrost the Eagles, and both players will be able to make a major statement. Henry is looking forward to a competitive battle with Barkley, as he added: “It’s good to go against other great players, especially at our position, guys who are franchise players, making a big impact. That’s the cool thing about it – just going against guys that you want to see do well, except when they play us.”
