At a sanctuary, a woman was giving chickens to feed when she noticed a young cub wandering around unsupervised and alone. She scooped it up with no idea that it would eventually contain other abandoned pups.
The woman is the sister of Juliana Castaeda Turner, the founder of Juliana’s Animal Sanctuary (JAS), and she volunteers there. She went to find Juliana right away and picked up the puppy, who urged her to search the rest of the property for additional dogs.
They eventually came to an abandoned white bag in a field. They opened it and found three additional malnourished pups within. They believe they were just five weeks old.
Because of dehydration and malnutrition, the animals were extremely weak. They had fleas all over them as well.
The four cubs were separated from their mother and abandoned to perish. They might not have been discovered alive if it weren’t for that puppy that somehow got away and was spotted by Juliana’s sister.
They were transported to the vet right away so that they could be examined, given shots, and dewormed. Thankfully, the puppies were typically in good health.
Juliana thinks that the puppies were abandoned in that pasture by a local resident. She said that “people…are really cruel to animals and have a lot of dogs.”
Juliana hopes the puppies will soon be in excellent health before they begin looking for their forever homes now that they are in capable hands.
Given the enormous number of stray dogs found simply in Bogotá, she claims it will be challenging to detect and locate pets in households. In a blog entry for Juliana’s Animal Sanctuary, she writes, “There are more than 1,300,000 abandoned dogs in only the capital of my nation, Colombia, we have a lot of work to do here.”
