Caitlin Clark has stated that she intends to play golf throughout the offseason after her rookie year in the WNBA ended.

Clark and the Indiana Fever were defeated in the first round by the Connecticut Sun, in a series that they had been the underdogs coming in as the lower seed – losing the first two games to see them eliminated from the playoffs.

The rookie emerged as an immediate superstar in the league after being made the first overall pick coming out of Iowa, with her game immediately translating on the court after barely having time off after her final collegiate season before the WNBA began just weeks later.

In the WNBA, many players opt to continue playing once their years with their teams have been brought to a close, with some opting to play in European leagues while others play in other organized basketball competitions.

However, Clark has now plans to do so after her hectic 12 months, and now looks forward to some time away from the sport. Clark told reporters: “I’m gonna play some golf. That’s what I’m gonna do until it becomes too cold in Indiana. I’ll become a professional golfer.”

When asked how she’ll approach the next six months away from professional basketball, Clark said she was unsure, but looks forward to doing so.

Caitlin Clark and the Fever saw their seasons come to an end

She said: “It’s definitely different for me. I feel like basketball has really consumed my life for a year, so I feel like it’ll be good for me to reflect back on everything that’s happened. I feel like I didn’t even have time to really reflect on my college career because it ended so fast, then I came here and was trying to give everything I could to this team and kind of move on to put all that behind me and help this team get back to the playoffs.

“So I feel like taking some time to myself and really enjoying that, reflecting back. You know, it was special. There were a lot of things that this group accomplished that a lot of people probably didn’t think was possible. It’ll definitely be a little weird for me over the course of the first couple of weeks, then I’m sure I’ll get bored and pick up a basketball again.”

The 2025 WNBA season is set to get underway in May, with the playoffs continuing through the next few weeks.
