WNBA star Satou Sabally has been linked to Indiana Fever after announcing she is leaving the Dallas Wings.

The 26-year-old was drafted second overall by the Wings in 2020 and made the All-WNBA first team in 2023. Earlier this week, Sabally confirmed she had played her final game for Dallas and is heading into free agency.

Indiana has been mentioned as a possible destination for the Wings forward. However, a 100-93 defeat by the Fever in September caused an awkward moment for Sabally, who was confronted by Indiana guard Caitlin Clark’s popularity within the Dallas crowd.

“Obviously, it’s annoying because there were way too many Caitlin fans in our arena,” Sabally said postgame. “But kudos, because it’s amazing to see so many people in women’s basketball jerseys, it’s amazing to see the excitement and the joy that comes out of that.

“Although I feel like our Dallas fans could have done better – I had mixed feelings seeing all the Caitlin jerseys in our home – but it’s an amazing sign for women’s basketball and it’s just great how far we’ve come.”

A few months later, Sabally announced her decision to leave Dallas and embark on a new team. “I’m working with [the Wings] together to find a next home for me,” she told the New York Post. “I’ve already played my last game in Dallas. I’m just excited. I’m excited for free agency.”

Sabally will enter free agency later this month, and it will grab headlines if she decides to join the Fever. Indiana guard Clark has been instrumental in the league’s surge in popularity and is joined on the court by stars like Aliyah Boston, Lexie Hull, and Kelsey Mitchell.

It’s shaping up to be a significant season for Indiana, who replaced Christie Sides with former Connecticut Sun head coach Stephanie White in October. However, Sabally will have many choices and might be enticed to join forces with her sister Nyara at the New York Liberty.

Sabally’s immediate attention is on the inaugural Unrivaled season, where she serves as captain of Phantom BC. The 3v3 league begins on January 17 and will continue until the finals on March 17.
