Travis Hunter’s trash talk aimed at Kansas star cornerback Cobee Bryant did not go according to plan.
Before the Buffaloes 37-21 loss to the Jayhawks, Hunter and Bryant engaged in a verbal back and forth, with the latter explaining how much he was looking forward to facing off against the two-way star. That said, Hunter didn’t appear to take too kindly to Bryant’s excitement.
“Yes, I’m not going to lie, I’ve been waiting,” Bryant said, per Sports Illustrated. “I already marked this on my notes. I already know this is the game I’ve been wanting all season. Yeah, this is going to be the game.”

During a live video game stream, Hunter acknowledged Bryant’s words. As he acknowledged his quasi-rival’s wanting to face him, the Buffaloes star downplayed the meeting, believing the Jayhawks will have to have multiple defenders on him when the game rolls around.
“We let people talk bro,” the 21-year-old said, according to Sports Illustrated. “If that makes him feel better, it’s gonna make him feel better. Let that boy talk. They know they gonna have to double team. Stop talking crazy bro.”
Hunter certainly made his presence felt against the Jayhawks, with eight receptions for 125 yards and two touchdowns. On the defensive side, Colorado’s star had seven total tackles with three solo, to go with one pass defended.

For Kansas, Bryant had three total tackles with two passes defended. More importantly however was the fact that the Jayhawks came away with the win in front of their home crowd.
After the game, Colorado head coach Deion Sanders praised how Kansas came out with my fire and gusto from the jump, which led to the upset win. Additionally, Sanders criticized his team’s play, believing that his players were complacent in the game.
“They (Kansas) have a tremendous football team, they are resilient, wonderful coach, one of my favorites in the Big 12,” Sanders told reporters after the game. “I feel as though we have a tremendous relationship. He checked in on me when nobody was.
“Before the game, I told him that his team was resilient. They are a reflection of who he is. They fight to the end, and they’re very physical, they’re tough and tenacious, they ram the heck out of that football which we couldn’t stop. We started smelling ourselves a little bit. That’s what I told our team.
“We got intoxicated with the success. We got intoxicated with the multitude of articles and the assumption that we’re this and that. We did not play CU football, and that’s why we got our butts kicked.”
He added: “It’s a phenomenal thing. I don’t just think about football, I think about life. So, the message to these young men is ‘If God was to grant you every darn thing we needed in life, all the abilities, the thought process, the connections, the visuals, if you don’t do nothing with it that’s on you.’ That’s where we are. We controlled our own destiny, and we fumbled it.”
