Tom Brady called Rob McElhenney out on the controversial decision to pull in New York Giants legend Eli Manning at Wrexham.

The top of England’s League One has a distinctive American theme about it with Ryan Reynolds and McElhenney’s co-owned Wrexham sitting top of the table ahead of Birmingham City, who have Brady as a minority shareholder. And the two clubs faced off earlier this month as the opposing owners came head-to-head.

Ahead of the game at St Andrew’s, Brady and McElhenney shared the center circle together for a short segment on Brady’s vlog of his journey over the Atlantic to see his Blues in action. But before the game, the Wrexham duo announced that former Giants quarterback Manning had joined the project.

In a video uploaded to Tom Brady’s YouTube channel, the two reacted to Manning becoming a co-chairman at the Red Dragons ahead of Wrexham’s trip to Birmingham. A post by the Welsh club showed Manning wearing a Wrexham shirt which was later reshared by the Giants icon, who wrote: “Now I can beat @TomBrady in football and Futbol! Go @Wrexham_AFC!”

Brady immediately had his back up against the wall as he said to McElhenney about the signal caller who beat him and the Patriots in two Super Bowl finals “Why do you pull him out of the bag? That’s bulls***! You got right to my kryptonite!” The Always Sunny star swiftly deflected the blame to his partner Ryan Reynolds, replying: “That was Ryan’s idea and Eli is a funny guy.”

The Patriots legend then questioned McElhenney’s loyalty as an Eagles fan. With the Philadelphia native getting on board a great from the rival New York Giants. “You’re an Eagles fan, how are you calling in him as a reinforcement, that’s ridiculous.” McElhenney shamefully agreed with Brady as he shook his head. “I know, believe me, it pains me,” he replied looking gutted.

However, Brady was able to have the last laugh following Manning’s announcement as his Birmingham side came from behind to beat Wrexham 3-1 in an incident-packed game. Jack Marriott gave the visitors the lead after just three minutes before a double from League One’s record signing, Jay Stansfield – who arrived for in an outrageous £20m deal – by far the biggest fee paid by a third-tier club. Tomoki Iwata doubled the Blues lead which ultimately secured the three points.

The Red Dragons saw former Premier League winger James McClean involved in unsavory scenes with Birmingham fans as the home support launched missiles at him while the Republic of Ireland international flashed a politically motivated tattoo and aimed insults back at fans. Meanwhile, Paul Mullin reframed himself at the last moment from biting Blues defender Alex Cochrane after the two had collided.

Wrexham have played one game more than the Blues, meaning their slender lead on goal difference could see them toppled in the coming weeks if Chris Davies’ side continue their surge on the third tier.
